The configuration is very much more powerful that way, eliminating all those “clicks” and “pops” caused by static and preventing the record mat from being “stuck” to the underside of the disc when it is lifted at the end of play. Similarly, if you are a home cinema enthusiast, you will be as concerned about the picture as well as the sound. That’s why Ringmat Developments has designed another product to help you get the best possible sound and picture during playback – RINGMAT FEET.

RINGMAT FEET control and disperse the mechanical and electrical vibrations that would otherwise spoil the sound quality of hi-fi and the sound and picture of home cinema systems. These vibrations are natural by-products of any hi-fi or home cinema system, and they cause loss of information and signal phase distortions.

RINGMAT FEET minimise the effect of these vibrations. You’ll notice the difference immediately.

Just place Ringmat Feet under each foot of a hi-fi component and hear your music come to life!

RINGMAT TECHNOLOGY AT WORK
Constructed from a careful selection of materials, RINGMAT FEET work in much the same way as a RINGMAT, controlling theme chanical vibrations and the effects of resonance by decoupling equipment from their support surfaces and dispersing vibrational energy into the air in and around the FEET.

Through the inclusion in each set of RINGMAT FEET of a STATFOOT, based on our STATMAT technology, the problems of electrical vibration (static and the interaction with unwanted electromagnetic fields) are also noticeably reduced. This is achieved by decoupling electromagnetic fields by breaking the contacts between the equipment and their support surfaces.

The problem with mechanical and electrical vibrations is that they corrupt the signals by introducing phase errors and therefore contaminate the sound of hi-fi systems and reduce the picture quality in home cinema systems. By using RINGMAT FEET, the result is a cleaner, crisper sound, that’s far more musical and closer to the original recording, and in the case of home cinema systems, an improved picture.

RINGMAT FEET DEVELOPMENT
Since their launch in 1999, there have been constant design improvements in the materials used to make RINGMAT FEET. Nearly all the materials used have now been changed to ones that work to a higher specification, and with each change an improvement in sound quality has usually resulted. No other form of component support matches RINGMAT FEET. From the beginning of 2005, the range of RINGMAT FEET available expanded from 2 to 5.

The 5 types of RINGMAT FEET are:
•CHEETAH (previously called Lightweight (LW)Feet)
•TIGER (previously called Heavy Duty (HD)Feet)
•INDIAN JUMBO
•AFRICAN JUMBO

RINGMAT FEET are constructed according to core Ringmat principles of dispersing vibration into the air in a controlled manner without oscillation. They consist of an arrangement of discs and concentric rings, very much like RINGMATS. Principally, there are two plastic discs between which are a cork ring and a thicker poron spiral spring within that ring - poron is a rapid recovery material used in the aerospace industry. There are two foam rings under the lower disc and the cork ring on top of the lower disc flexes the lower plastic disc between the foam rings. On the top is a smaller, centrally placed, plastic covered steel disc that flexes and pressures the top plastic disc within the cork ring below.

The flexing of the plastic discs and the compression of the foam rings combine to absorb and disperse the vibrations and any resonance affecting any item of equipment that rests on the Feet. The degree of flexing and compression depends upon the weight of the equipment being supported. Too much or too little weight either over-flexes/over-compresses or under-flexes/under-compresses the relevant components and therefore it is important that the Feet chosen are the right ones for the weight of equipment to be supported. Accordingly, we use variations in the number and thickness of the plastic discs used, the thickness and density of the foam and the thickness of the cork rings and poron spirals, and the number of poron spirals to achieve to appropriate blend for each weight range up to 69kilos.

There are variations in the weight ranges according to the number of RINGMAT FEET used. Ofcourse, this has to correspond to the number of ‘feet’ or cones used under the item of equipment to be supported, or, for example, the number of RINGMAT DOMES used in place of the equipment’s own feet (or where the equipment has no ‘feet’ of its own, such as may be the case with loudspeakers).

SPECIFICATIONS:-
The specifications for the present range of RINGMAT FEET are as follows:-

Cheetah:-
Weight Bearing (4 feet): Up to 13Kg
Weight Bearing (3 feet): Up to 10.5 Kg
Nominal Thickness: 7.7mm
Overall Diameter: 73.5mm

Tiger:-
Weight Bearing (4 feet): 13 to 21.5Kg
Weight Bearing (3 feet): 10.5 to 18Kg
Nominal Thickness: 8.8mm
Overall Diameter: 73.5mm

Indian Jumbo:-
Weight Bearing (4 feet): 21.5 to 39Kg
Weight Bearing (3 feet): 18 to 34.5Kg
Nominal Thickness: 11.5mm
Overall Diameter: 73.5mm

African Jumbo:-
Weight Bearing (4 feet): 21.5 to 39Kg
Weight Bearing (3 feet): 18 to 34.5Kg
Nominal Thickness: 11.5mm
Overall Diameter: 98.0mm

CHEETAH and TIGER Feet are exceptionally fast and agile, providing far greater resolution & dynamics in the sound when used in a hi-fi or audio-visual system, and also an improved picture in the case of the latter type of system. The same attributes will also be found in JUMBO Feet, but under much heavier weights. There are two versions of JUMBO Feet:INDIAN for component feet up to 45mm across (or Small Ringmat Domes) and AFRICAN for larger feet (or Large Ringmat Domes). The weight limitations given for each type of RINGMAT FEET are approximate and depend on the nature and shape of the equipment’s own ‘feet’ or other type of immediate support under the equipment. If these provide a relatively small area of contact with the top of the FEET, thereby increasing the weight bearing per square mm, the quoted weightbearing limitations for a particular set of RINGMAT FEET will need to be reduced accordingly.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
For best results where cones are used, the smaller contact area, or ‘point’, should be uppermost under the equipment itself, not pointing down into the support surface below.

To avoid oscillation, one RINGMAT FOOT in any set of 3 or 4 FEET operates in a stiffer fashion to the others in the set. The same approach is used for RINGMAT DOMES. Contrary to expectations, the stiffer RINGMAT FOOT (ordenser RINGMAT DOME) should always be used under the least weight bearing corner or other support area of the item to be supported.

RINGMAT FEET must rest on a flat surface. Usually, this would be a hard surface, such as found with shelves and floors, but some users report that they have achieved very good results on carpet. However, with some carpets there could be difficulty in keeping the Statfeet flat.

With each set of RINGMAT FEET there isone STATFOOT, which is a square of ourpatented anti-static film. The STATFOOT is to be used beneath one, but only one,of the RINGMAT FEET in accordance with the instructions included with each set of FEET. STATFEET can also be used on their own by placing them under one, but only one, ordinary foot of each component, which can include loudspeakers as well as electrical equipment. STATFEET not only improve the sound but also the picture quality in home cinema systems. STATFEET can therefore be used separately throughout the reproduction system and for economy they are available in packs of 6. Moreover, one STATMAT used on top of another in the same position increases their power, and therefore their performance.

RINGMAT DOMES

RINGMAT DOMES
Use RINGMAT DOMES under loudspeakers, turntables, CD players (also DVD, SACD,and all transports, DACs, etc.),amplifiers, tuners, video machines, all other items of hi-fi or A/V equipment and all supporting platforms, shelves etc.

RINGMAT DOMES can be used on their own and will generally outperform most other isolation point support products. They perform even better in conjunction with STATFEET. Nevertheless, for best results directly under speakers and equipment, they should be used with RINGMAT FEET(which include a STATFOOT with every set).

When used in conjunction with RINGMATFEET, DOMES can enable loudspeakers to provide a sound quality that is superior to that using traditional spikes. This concept was first passed to us by the Danish hi-fi manufacturer Holfi, when they were trying the RINGMAT FEET under loudspeakers, but they needed an additional component to fit between the underside of the speaker and the top of the FEET. RINGMAT DOMES were conceived as being the best solution, whereupon it was then established that they outperformed cones and most other forms of isolation point support under all sorts of components and in the support of platforms, shelving systems, etc.

Each DOME is made of compressed cork. It has the shape and appearance of a cone but without a ‘point’ at the top. There are three sizes, Mini, Small and Large, available in sets of 3 or 4.

For weights up to 39kg, the Small DOMES have a nominal diameter of 42mm and a height of approx. 19mm.

For weights up to 69kg, the Large DOMES have a nominal diameter of 56mm and a height of approx. 25mm.

Where a lower profile is required, use the Mini DOMES. These have a nominal diameter of 21mm and a height of approx. 9.5mm. Although noted for weights up to 13kg, in practice we have been using them for much heavier weights, up to 69kg, but with some loss of shape. However, from the sonic point of view, they do not generally provide the same level of sound quality as the Small DOMES when used underneath equipment.

Nevertheless, it is difficult to be categorical about which size of Dome produces the best sonic performance. A number of factors can come into play. For example, when used on glass shelves, the large Domes can seem to provide the best sound because they appear to be able to absorb so much more of the ‘ringing’ resonance one otherwise gets when using glass as a support surface.

Whilst using three DOMES instead of four may sometimes result in a superior sound quality, such arrangements are less secure. This is a particularly important consideration with regard to loudspeakers. This is because the Base Platter Mat and the other Spacers provide a much better interface between the low-mass Ringmat (whichever model) and the relatively high-mass platter.

The original concept of having the ability to fine-tune the stylus rake angle and obtain the correct VTA (however described – different people use different terminology) is still crucial in accurately reproducing sound from LP’s. A correctly angled stylus axis is essential for correct tracking of the groove walls.

Ringmat Spacers comprise:

A Base Platter Mat that has a special low resonance pattern cut out on the inside of the latex disc. The 0.75mm thick latex Base Platter Mat is to be used directly on the bare platter – any platter, provided it is flat (not concave and without ribs), including the common two-part platters that have an inner hub and outer platter, such as those used by Linn, Thorens, AR and many others. Ringmats used directly on top of a Base Platter Mat provide a much fuller sound, with excellent bass performance. It is not possible to provide this sort of performance by using a Ringmat on its own and it is not possible to construct a mat that achieves such a result other than in a two-part construction such as exists with the Ringmat Base Platter Mat and a Ringmat. The nature of the latex used in the Platter Mat is such that it adheres to the platter, preventing slippage. It also effectively dampens any ringing of the platter below. The low resonance pattern makes it far more effective than any other rubber-based mat.

The original version of the Ringmat Base Platter Mat is called a Ringmat Spacer Mat and this has a stud at the outer edge to enable the other Spacers (see below) to lock in and not move round whilst records are being played. Apart from the stud on the outer edge, the Ringmat Spacer mat and Base Platter Mat are identical. As with the Base Platter Mat, the Ringmat Spacer Mat is placed on the bare platter. Also, it is possible to add a stud to a Ringmat Base Platter Mat to convert it into a Ringmat Spacer Mat to use with the plastic Ringmat Spacers.

A range of coloured plastic Spacers, each a different thickness, that are placed on top of the Spacer Mat and which lock into it using the stud on the outer edge of the Spacer Mat. Using the Spacers in various combinations enables the user to adjust the height of the record above the platter in steps of 25 microns. Ringmat Spacers enable the stylus rake angle to be easily and accurately set for each side of an LP (the 2 sides of an LP are always different – see below) without having to adjust the height of the tonearm or the stylus pressure and without losing a reference point at which to return. A standard set of 8 Spacers, as supplied with the full Ringmat Support System, would comprise:

TOP SPACERS:-

2 Green - 0.075mm think
1 Blue - 0.100mm thick
2 Slate - 0.125mm thick

BASE SPACERS:-

1 Clear - 0.250mm think
2 Yellow - 0.500mm thick

With any combination of Spacers, at least one base Spacer (Yellow or Clear) is placed on the Spacer Mat first. All the others are placed so that the thinnest is on top and the others are in descending order of thickness. It is very important that a Spacer is not placed on top of another that is thinner.

All Spacers, including the Base Platter Mat or Spacer Mat, have the proprietary anti-resonance cut-outs found in so many of the Ringmat and Statmat products.

PURPOSE & PERFORMANCE SUMMARY
Ringmat Spacers improve LP sound reproduction by overcoming the following engineering and alignment shortcomings inherent with all turntable reproduction systems, irrespective of price:

LPs of different thickness. Differences in vinyl thickness have always existed, but the advent of an increasing number of 180g audiophile pressings makes the current problem far greater.
Different angles at which records are cut. This problem is every bit as prevalent as vinyl thickness and the effects can be just as great.
The adoption of platter diameters smaller than that that is ideal from an engineering aspect.
The unequal mass of a record and the platter, which needs to be graduated.
Unwanted resonances, which feed up through the turntable and are inherent in all platters. Untreated, these resonances will deflect stylus tracking and compress dynamics.
The "ringing" of some platter materials, which needs to be damped.

The sonic advantages are a much wider and deeper soundstage, fuller sound, greater and sharper dynamics and energy, improved tonal reproduction, deeper bass response, and the retrieval of far more detail. Above all, the way the timing of the music, and the setting of the music within the ambience of the venue, clicks into place.

It may be considered that a Spacer adjustment of 25microns (0.025mm) is too small to make much difference, but in a highly tuned system using a non-spherical stylus, such as that used by Ringmat for design and development purposes, as well as many other vinyl lovers, a difference of 25microns can immediately rob the sound of the true magic of the recording. In the right situation, the effect of the difference is not something that requires focus and attention – it just hits you hard between the eyes.

If the ability to adjust height is not critical (such as where the stylus tip is spherical), then the Spacers used with the MRA version of the Ringmat Support System should be considered. Whilst this version has only a Spacer Mat and two Spacers (1 Clear and 1 Slate) instead of the Spacer Mat and the standard eight Spacers of the full System, the range of adjustment provided enables many records to be played without any great difficulty and with excellent reproduction whilst retaining the advantages listed in 3 to 6 above and at a much lower cost. The MRA version does not include the booklet ‘How to Set Up and Fine Tune a Turntable’, which is then available separately.

USER TIPS
When seeking the correct Spacer height (i.e. choosing the right combination of Spacers), or stylus pressure even, such as when fine-tuning without Spacers, users may encounter what might be regarded as the correct height and alignment but which is nevertheless a false setting. As the height (or stylus pressure) changes, it can seem to be "right" every 375/400microns (0.375/0.400mm) in the manner of an octave, but only one such setting is really the correct one. A false setting usually has something about the sound that is not quite right, such as being a bit thin (too much height), ragged at the soundstage extremes (left and right) or closed in, or bland, non-involving and possibly over dynamic (height too low). In a good system, such false settings can still be beguiling and there can be the temptation to think any shortcomings that may seem to be there is a fault with the recording or pressing, whereas it really is just a matter of not accurately aligning the stylus within the groove. (Well, some recordings and pressings may be at fault!). The treasures awaiting discovery in those grooves will not be found without a full set of Ringmat Spacers, or a continually adjustable tonearm height regulator (often very expensive), or otherwise adjusting the stylus pressure for each record, or record side even - which method of adjustment would you prefer?

As just mentioned, one side of a record requires a different height to the other, by around 75microns (0.075mm). This appears to be due to the different polarity of the material in the LP and the effect that this has when stamping it out. Sometimes it is the ‘A’ side that needs the extra 75microns (a Green Spacer); sometimes it is the ‘B’ side - this uncertainty can arise even within a boxed set of records.

The material polarity of an LP can also directly affect the sound, where one side of the record will always sound better then the other. The adverse effects on the less good side of the record can be corrected to some extent using the LP Blue Statmat and Statcap in the manner described in the instructions, as well as increasing the height by some 75microns.

CD STATMAT

Sound specialist Ringmat Developments is proud to announce what it claims to be the biggest advance in CD reproduction since compact discs were introduced in 1983. The STATMAT electrostatic control system is designed to enhance the reproduction quality of CD recorded music. STATMAT eliminates the problem of low-level voltage surges, by evening out the electrostatic charges which build up during play. This results in greater resolution and separation, a wider, deeper soundstage, enhanced power and dynamics and an overall cleaner, crisper sound.

The size and shape of a standard compact disc, STATMAT is simply placed on the CD in the tray. Unlike competitive products, no treatment of the disc itself is necessary. Moreover, its lightweight material ensures that the transport mechanism does not suffer from any additional weight.

Developed over five years by sister company QR Design - in collaboration with DNM Design - STATMAT is the brainchild of sound consultant John Rogers. He says: "CDs revolve at high speed in a dry, closed environment with relatively high temperatures. This causes a build-up of electrostatic fields which can distort the phase of the signal from the CD to the speakers. Such phase anomalies result in a degradation of the sound quality. STATMAT addresses this problem by evening out the low-voltage 'hot spots', ensuring that the reproduction is as true as possible to the original recording. " STATMAT is coated with a unique pattern of specially formulated conductive inks which level out the electrostatic fields around the CD, ensuring that the signal recreated by the digital circuitry is phase-correct before it is sent to the speakers. Therefore, as the signal suffers no phase distortion, the resultant sound is more vibrant, with an improved sense of timing and rhythm, clearer intonation and enhanced imaging.

A vital addition to any music lover's equipment, STATMAT can be used with most CD players, midi, mini and other packaged systems and portables.

STATMAT MkII CDi
The single film version of STATMAT is now in its third generation as STATMAT MkII CDi.

The single film version is useful for those transports where the extra thickness of the CDi Blue may cause a problem. This is often the case with those transports (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM etc.) used for computer systems. They also provide a lower cost entry system for the STATMAT concept.

STATMAT PLUS
STATMAT PLUS is the latest STATMAT for CD, DVD, SACD and CD-ROM players

It is another single film version of the standard STATMAT MkII CDi but has a re-peelable adhesive collar around the centre hole on the underside of the film.

PLUS is ideally suited to CD, DVD, SACD and CD-ROM players that use drawer-loading mechanisms, but is equally as effective with other types of players. This results in the Statmat film staying firmly in position during play and, with drawer-loading mechanisms, still staying in place on the CD as the tray opens and closes. This is an important part of the design, as its purpose is to re-assure users that the STATMAT will stay with the CD at all times and will not become detached whilst in the player.

After play, the film lifts off the CD with ease, for re-use with the next CD. In some cases, this may preclude the setting of an accurate stylus rake angle for the cartridge. We can supply 2mm Tonearm Spacers in order to increase the height of the tonearm at the pivot end of the arm. They are placed between the underside of the tonearm pivot and the top of the plinth or tonearm board of the turntable.

In order to do this, first ensure the stylus tip and cantilever are protected during the ensuing process and that the tonearm lead is safely disconnected from the phono stage. Also, note the position/alignment of the tonearm to the platter and sides of the plinth so that, when repositioning the arm after the Tonearm Spacer has been added, the same alignment is retained. Start by unscrewing the retaining nut, which holds the tonearm in place and is situated under the plinth or tonearm board, and then removing it and withdrawing the tonearm from the turntable. This allows for the spike in the loudspeaker, systems table or other spiked support to be placed in the spike hole on top of the Spike Stopper.

Spike Stoppers are designed to grip the sides of the spikes rather than have the weight bearing applied through the point of the spike. If the spikes are not wide enough to be gripped firmly at the sides in the Spike Stopper holes, wider/fatter versions of the spikes must be used.

Each set of Ringmat Spike Stoppers contains one denser, blue speckled Dome, where the cork has a synthetic rubber binder. As a general rule, place the denser Spike Stopper underneath the spike bearing the least weight above. For example, if most of the weight carried by the support is at the rear, place the denser Spike Stopper underneath the front right hand spike. If most of the weight is at the front, place it underneath one of the rear spikes. With supports carrying a turntable, place it under the front left hand spike instead of under the front right hand spike. The other Spike Stoppers can then be placed in the remaining required positions.

When three spikes are in use, again place the denser Spike Stopper underneath the spike bearing the least weight. Some experimentation may be worthwhile. Ideally, the least weight should be on the side where two spikes are positioned but unfortunately the loudspeaker or systems support manufacturers will have already positioned the spikes, and are inclined to place two spikes under the heaviest side rather than under the lightest side.

Spike Stoppers enable loudspeakers and equipment to provide a sound quality that is superior to using traditional spikes alone, especially when used in conjunction with Statfeet.

In the case of systems tables, especially where Statfeet are already in place under the equipment above, some experimentation may be necessary to determine the best position and orientation of the Statfoot. Start by placing the Statfoot under the front right hand Spike stopper as shown in the Statfoot instructions for televisions. In some cases, improvements can be obtained by turning the Statfoot clockwise 90°. Do not be surprised if there are marked changes in the sound as changes are made in the positioning and orientation of Statfeet. On a carpet, a Statfoot will crinkle and may not perform to its full potential unless a flat surfaced support is introduced between the Spike Stopper and the carpet.

Further significant improvements in sound quality can be obtained using Spike Stoppers on top of Ringmat Feet – Cheetah, Tiger or Indian Jumbo, as appropriate for the weight, where small Spike Stoppers are used; African Jumbo, as appropriate for the weight, where large Spike Stoppers are used.

Reviews:- Tony Bolton Hi-fi World May 2009

"In my case, I used two sets of four to test them underneath my Kelly KT3 loudspeakers, which currently sit atop a pair of two inch tall polished black granite plinths ...

Installation of the Spike Stoppers was easy, resting the spike inside the hole drilled in the top of the Spike Stopper ...

From the opening bars of the Guilini/Philharmonia Orchestra's recording of Rossini's 'L'Italiana in Algeri' I noticed positive changes to the sound of my system. Their unique design, using Ringmat Developments’ proprietary STATMAT® technology, breaks up the interference from electromagnetic fields that would otherwise build up around components from their surroundings.

Statfeet are used under Ringmat Feet, the feet of components, or under Ringmat Domes, cones or other forms of single point isolation support where they are used in place of a component’s own feet or where a component has no feet of its own. Such components may be loudspeakers, turntables, CD, DVD and SACD players, televisions, video recorders and other items of hi-fi or A/V equipment. Each loudspeaker should be considered a separate component.

A Statfoot is automatically supplied with each set of Ringmat Feet and with many of the Vivacity AR Packs.

How Statfeet Work:-

Statfeet work in much the same way as Statmats, though they do not have to contend with the static build-up effects of CD play and LP play.

Statfeet are dealing with the adverse effects of uncontrolled electromagnetic properties of materials. It is the electromagnetic equivalent of the control one can exercise over iron filings as a magnet is drawn over them.

With iron filings, one can physically "see" how a magnet changes and controls the orientation of the iron filings. One cannot "see" the orientation of electromagnetic properties of materials, but they do need to be correctly orientated in the context of sound reproduction and this orientation has a very significant effect upon sound.

One example of material polarity is that found with cables. The same polarity is found with all materials; though, apart from cables, it is difficult evaluate this except in the case of flat materials. The manner in which polarity requirements change during the use of our Vivacity AR platforms in accordance with the instructions is an example of this type of flat material polarity. Likewise, with the component build-up of all our products, the polarity of most items needs to be checked. This can be time consuming. We are probably the only company in this industry taking such care with the build-up of their products.

So the easiest explanation is that the Statmat material, and therefore the Statfeet, are the electromagnetic equivalent of a simple magnet, though very much more sophisticated.

Statfeet do not change the polarity of the material they are used with, just as magnets do not change the polarity of other magnets to which they are attracted by magnetism. Statfeet just smooth the electromagnetic properties in the correct direction where they are disturbed by materials being placed adjacent or on top of one another, rather like the pile on the surface of a carpet or of velvet. Or when brushing with the nap in the case of the cloth used to cover the playing area of snooker, billiard or pool tables.

For their size and thickness, Statfeet are very powerful. Their power can be increased in certain circumstances by placing one on top of another. But they need to be carefully positioned and orientated to work at their best, as one would with a non-passive electrical appliance or component.

Instructions for Use:-

Statfeet should be used under only one foot of any component or under only one Ringmat Dome, cone or other form of single point isolation support where these are used in place of a component’s own feet or where a component has no feet of its own.

We recommend one of the rear feet of a component (or Ringmat Dome, cone or other isolation support), usually the one on the right (assuming there are two rear feet or positions). However, some experimentation as to which component foot to use may be worthwhile in view of differences between components. For televisions place under the right hand front foot because of the static associated with the screen.

Statfeet should be used underneath a component in only one location.

Where several components are stacked on a multi-shelved systems table, one or more Statfeet may need to be used on the left-hand side instead of all on the right. Again, this can only be determined by experimentation, ie. through listening tests using one Statfoot at a time, following the signal chain. Start with the source component(s), then move to the pre-amp, then to the power amp.

When placing a Statfoot underneath the foot of a component (or Ringmat Dome, cone or other isolation support), try to ensure that: the whole of the Statfoot rests upon the support surface and that part of it does not hang over the edge of the support;

The Statfoot is orientated so that the corner containing the two circular cut-outs is placed nearest or towards the centre of the support platform (ie, that part of the support surface which is directly under the centre of the component). This requirement usually changes when using the “BLUE” series of Statmats, CDi BLUE and LP BLUE – see the instructions with these products.

So far as is practicable, the component’s foot (or Ringmat Dome, cone or other isolation support) rests centrally on the Statfoot.

Using one Statfoot on top of another increases the power and improves sound quality still further. When using two Statfeet on top of each other, align the Statfeet so that the patterns overlay each other as exactly as is practicable.

Statfeet are powerful, though passive, electrical devices. Their beneficial effect can last for some time after their removal. As in the case of Statmats for CDs, DVDs and LPs, this beneficial lasting effect needs to be borne in mind during the course of any evaluation work.

Also, remember that leaving Statfeet lying around, other than in their proper position, within the vicinity of your hi-fi system could affect the sound coming from the system.

CABINET VIBRATION ABSORPTION - RINGMAT DAMPERS represent a new approach to vibration absorption in loudspeaker and equipment cabinets.

They are used on top of the loudspeakers and equipment; so there is no need to open up anything. The vibrational energy is then dispersed into the air. The construction of the Dampers is similar to that used for Ringmat Feet, but with important differences as they are used on top rather than underneath speakers and equipment. As with Ringmat Feet, Ringmat Dampers work in much the same way as Ringmats.

Positioning of Ringmat Dampers:-
Initially, identify the corner bearing the least weight of the loudspeaker or equipment housing concerned. As a general rule with loudspeakers, most of the weight is at the front and evenly spread left and right, so use the Damper on top of the speaker in the rear right hand quarter. With equipment, where the weight is at the back, it is generally best to use the Damper in the front right hand quarter, and in the back left hand quarter if the weight is at the front. The weight distribution can be ascertained more accurately by holding the speaker or equipment half way between front and back and see which way the weight inside pulls the speaker or equipment – to the back or to the front. Then hold them half way between left and right and again see which way the weight inside pulls the speaker or equipment – to the left or to the right.

Keeping the Damper within the lightest quarter, place the outside edge of the Damper against an imaginary line half way between the two longest sides, with the centre of the Damper half way between the centre point on the longest side and the end of the loudspeaker or equipment housing adjoining the lightest quarter.

Then, whilst listening to the sound from your best sounding recording at its most rhythmical, move the Damper around a little to see if an even better sounding position for the Damper can be found.

Timing of the Music:-
All our Ringmat and Statmat products correct phase anomalies in the signal, which is why they perform so well. In turn, this affects the coincidence of direct and reflected sounds. Inevitably, this affects the timing of the music, which can suddenly go flat. Tiny errors in the timing of sound reflections can also give rise to what might otherwise be thought to be distortion, and can be found throughout the frequency range. Accordingly, some small change in loudspeaker placement may be necessary to realign timing whenever one of our products is introduced into a sound reproduction system. This is not unique to our products and a similar adjustment may be required when introducing other manufacturers’ products. Therefore, check the position of each speaker in relation to a rear wall, the distance each speaker is from the other and the extent to which they are each “toed-in” (to tighten imagery and adjust relationships in distance to rear and side walls). Depending upon the accuracy of the system, an adjustment of 3 to 6mm either way may be all that is needed, though sometimes more is required.

Depending upon the ease with which a speaker can be moved and the manner in which it is supported, it may be possible to ascertain the correct position simply by listening to each speaker in turn whilst “leaning” or “swivelling” it in each direction. Concentrate on changes in the timing, clarity and transparency of the sound as this is done. Do NOT attempt this if the speaker is not suitably under control. Ensure it cannot topple, cause damage to itself or to its supports and that there is no risk to cable connections.

RINGMAT PURE POWER MAINS CABLE

The RINGMAT PURE POWER MAINS CABLE is a very considerable Mains Cable with a length of 4-core Ringmat OFC Pure Power Cable and a weighty Earth cable at its heart. Prototypes of this Mains Cable have been in use in Ringmat Developments’ test bed system for some years. As explained above, the results are awesome. However, there was a practical problem in bringing them to the market in that the thickness of the Pure Power Cable and the Earth Lead (up to 10mm²) meant that they could not fit into even the very largest versions of domestic or professional AC mains plugs or high power IEC plugs/sockets. These problems have now been solved by linking the very large conductors at the heart of the Mains Cable to another substantial 5-core ‘connecting’ Mains Cable of significant quality, via a recently developed and very neat 5-pole connector at each end. Although the ‘connecting’ Mains Cable is very substantial, it is possible to terminate it with traditional UK and international type mains plugs. The exceptional quality of the Ringmat OFC Pure Power Cable is well documented and considerable care has been taken through extensive listening tests to ensure that the other components are of complimentary and comparable quality. Every care has been taken in the design of this Mains Cable to avoid those conditions whereby sound signals dependent upon mains power are adversely affected, such as where the wrong polarity has been used, the wrong number of strands have been used in conductors and through the use of solder to secure connections – only screws have been used to secure connections. As with the Pure Power Mains Cable, we have effectively used a 5-core cable structure throughout for the Power Cable TWO version, with a single Earth conductor and two conductors each for live and neutral whereby ‘opposite’ conductors are paired.

WHY ANOTHER MAINS CABLE?
The Ringmat Pure Power Mains Cable has been specifically designed to complement our own unique range of Audiophile Cables and other products and this combination will reveal their musicality and all their other attributes to a far greater degree than is otherwise possible. The Pure Power Mains Cable is expensive to build because of the need to accommodate very sizeable conductor cores that will not terminate within conventional heavy-duty plugs. World-class quality of this type does not come cheaply. However, Ringmat Developments’ other Audiophile Cables and other Ringmat products, including the Statmat products, will not perform at their best when used in conjunction with any inferior mains cable.

This is why we felt it was important to develop a high quality alternative Mains Cable - Power Cable TWO - at a more affordable price whilst still being in tune with our other products. As with the Ringmat Pure Power Mains Cable, the design of the Power Cable TWO enables an extraordinarily accurate sound reproduction to be provided in sound systems using it. Obviously, the quality and set up of the sound reproduction system itself is a crucial factor, but with the Ringmat Power Cable TWO Mains Cable there is the capability of outstanding tonal performance, imagery and transparency. The sound when using the Power Cable TWO is distinctly different from that when using the Pure Power Mains Cable. The smaller cores used with Power Cable TWO mean that the awesome sense of power and space available from the Pure Power Cable is not present to the same extent; it is narrower in bandwidth, smaller in scale and in soundstage, and the sound has less presence and resolution, but Power Cable TWO is still head and shoulders above most other so-called reference mains cables. In particular, the sound is noticeably more musical than with other mains cables.

Specifications of Power Cable TWO: 1.5mm2 4-core mains cable of significant high quality

Earth Cable: Single conductor of plain copper in LSF thermosetting insulation, giving a 7/0.67mm strand core size of 2.5mm2

Place of manufacture of complete Mains Cable: EU

Plugs and Connectors: The design of the plugs used with the Power Cable TWO Mains Cable is very important and the ones chosen are the same as those used for the Pure Power Mains Cable.

Cable Terminations: At the power socket end, the Mains cables are available with UK 13Amp, Schuko or IEC plugs, or with bare ends to meet local requirements with regard to mains plugs. Its low capacitance is maintained by advanced manufacturing techniques, with the screen helically wound over a polyester tape. This concept, together with how the cables are themselves configured between signal and ground, hot and cold, makes a very substantial screen for the whole interconnect without adversely affecting the signal and provides a very effective barrier against radio frequency interference.

The cable jacket, whilst not moulded in the same way as for the Pure Power Cable, still gently holds the conductors in position, thus enabling the cores to adjust position as the cable is wound and handled, avoiding permanent twists and knots. As in the case of the Pure Power Cable, this arrangement helps reduce vibration internally and further enhances the sound.

The cable is directional and normally this is in the same direction as the print on the cable. There are indicators on the made-up cables showing the direction in which the signal should flow through the cables and the direction is also made clear in other instances.

The sublime performance and specifications of the Pure Signal Cable means that is can be used for a number of purposes with massive advantage over other cable designs. Accordingly, they are now available with all our Pure Signal Premium cable products. They are, however, more expensive than our Ringmat RCA phono plugs. Also, for certain applications, such as where the centre hole of certain RCA type phono sockets are too small for the WBT Nextgen plugs centre pin, the Ringmat plugs are the ones to use.

Other plugs and types of connector, such as the Black Neutrik XLR plugs and the Puresonic 6055 BNC connectors, are also now available.
