The history of Quad is one of audio excellence. Since 1936, Quad has been at the very cutting edge of high-end audio winning acclaim and respect for our products around the world. Since Peter Walker founded the business in 1936, all Quad products have displayed an originality in design, born from a full and proper understanding of every aspect of sound reproduction. A world leader in audio amplifier and electrostatic speaker design, Quad has, over the years, made a major contribution to the improvement of sound quality. This contribution has been recognised by awards from around the world including the Queen's Award for Technological Achievement in 1978 the only one ever presented to an audio hi-fi equipment manufacturer.

Quad QC-24P (QC24P) Valve Phono Stage
QC-24P Valve phono stage For the connoisseur, however, there is the Quad QC-24 dedicated valve phono stage. This has been designed for Quad by valve supremo Tim DeParavicini - probably the finest valve amplifier designer in the world today. It has been voiced by the finest ears in the industry and will add an entirely new dimension to your enjoyment of vinyl recordings. This unit features a moving magnet/ moving coil toggle switch on the rear, a choice of input sensitivities and a direct full level output or variable level output if you wish to connect directly to a power amplifier.

Quad II - Eighty Valve Mono Power Amplifiers
QII-Eighty
Designed by Tim DeParavicini, the Quad II-Eighty takes inspiration from the original Quad II amplifier. It is an 80-Watt mono power amplifier following in the tradition and philiosophies of Peter Walker. The output section consists of 4 KT88 valves running as two pairs in push pull with the hallmark Quad topology of partial cathode loading in the output transformer.

Quad II - Classic 15W Valve Mono Power Amplifiers
II-classic 15W Valve mono power amplifier A faithful reproduction of the original, the new Quad II-classic offers audiophiles the chance to recreate the spirit and atmosphere produced from one of the most famous amplifiers in audio history. The original Quad II was first launched in 1953, designed by Peter Walker. At the time, many of his contemporaries were also producing good quality valve amplifiers. The Quad II looked, in comparison, very simple and unassuming, but its performance was far beyond that which its diminutive dimensions might suggest. The property which set the Quad II amplifier apart from other amplifiers of the time was its output stage. It was arranged such that the cathode coupled circuit emulated the performance of triode operation, but with the size and efficiency characteristics of pentode operation. It was this breakthrough that ensured the Quad II was to remain in continuous production until 1970. Peter’s circuit, notably the design of the output transformer, has become the stuff of legend amongst electronics engineers. Studied and analysed by the finest minds in the industry, the elegance and coherence of the design is still regarded as a reference today.

Quad II - Forty Valve Mono Power Amplifiers
II-forty 40W Valve mono power amplifier The Quad II-forty retains the elegance of the 1950s Quad II but with a level of sophistication, a build quality and finish rarely seen on any product old or new. The chassis has been substantially increased in size to accommodate the much larger components, all of which are hard wired by hand following a similar topology to the original. The modern listener demands a higher output than the fifteen watts of the original Quad II. The new Quad II-forty uses larger output valves, KT88s instead of KT66s, and a more robust power supply utilising a 5U4G rectifier valve. The input valves are now military specification 6SH7s instead of EF86s.

Quad QC-24 (QC24) Valve Pre Amplifier
For the QC Twenty Four pre amp, Quad's designer scoured the globe for the very finest components, with possibly the best example of this being the new 'old stock' 6111WA double triode.
With transformers designed by one of the world's leading authorities and relay input switching the musical signal is preserved in its purest form - pursuant to the philosophy of the theoretical perfect amplifier which Peter Walker himself stated is, 'a straight wire with gain'. The QC Twenty Four has 2 main outputs, 2 Tape Play and Record connections and inputs for CD, Tuner, Aux 1, Aux 2 and an optional Phono port.
