Moving coil (MC) cartridges are the choice for serious vinyl enthusiasts, offering greater detail, speed and dynamic accuracy than most moving magnet designs thanks to their lighter moving mass and more refined construction. They do demand more from the rest of your system — typically requiring a dedicated MC phono stage or step-up transformer, and careful attention to loading and tracking force — but the reward is a noticeably more open, detailed and dynamic sound.
