Linn 343 Passive with Active Bass (PWAB) Loudspeaker
Linn 343 Passive with Active Bass combines external amplification with Pistonik bass control
The Linn 343 Passive with Active Bass brings the cabinet, drive-unit architecture and Pistonik bass technology of Linn’s compact reference loudspeaker into a system designed around external amplification.
The upper-bass, midrange and tweeter array are driven by separate amplification, while the lower-frequency system remains active within the loudspeaker.
This creates a flexible route into 343 for listeners who want to integrate Linn’s latest loudspeaker architecture with compatible external amplification while retaining dedicated electronic control of the bass system.
Pistonik where it matters most
Active bass designed as part of the loudspeaker from the outset
343 is Linn’s first loudspeaker designed around Pistonik from the beginning.
Its lower-frequency architecture combines a 190 mm Pistonik upper-bass driver with a down-firing 220 mm Pistonik lower-bass driver.
In the PWAB configuration, the bass system uses Power DAC architecture and Pistonik motor technology, with Utopik supplying the active bass electronics.
This allows the lower frequencies to retain dedicated electronic control while the 343 array is powered by external amplification.
Reference performance with system flexibility
A 343 for externally amplified Linn systems
The PWAB model is designed for systems where the owner wants greater flexibility around external amplification.
Its three-way analogue passive crossover handles the upper-frequency array during conventional operation, while the active bass system remains electronically controlled within the loudspeaker.
For a fully Exakt configuration, the PWAB model can be used with a compatible Exaktbox and six channels of amplification.
Powered bass architecture
Power DAC and Utopik dedicated to the lower frequencies
The active bass section combines Linn Power DAC architecture with Pistonik motor technology.
A dedicated Utopik power supply supports the bass electronics within the loudspeaker, allowing the lower-frequency system to remain tightly controlled independently of the external amplifiers driving the 343 array.
This hybrid architecture is what defines the Passive with Active Bass configuration.
Four-way architecture
Specialised drive units throughout the frequency range
A 19 mm thin-ply woven carbon dome tweeter handles the highest frequencies, accompanied by a 64 mm thin-ply woven carbon dome midrange driver.
A 190 mm aluminium diaphragm Pistonik driver covers upper-bass duties.
The lowest frequencies are reproduced by a down-firing 220 mm aluminium diaphragm Pistonik driver positioned close to the floor.
Connection flexibility
Passive, active bass and Exakt connectivity
The Linn 343 PWAB provides three pairs of binding posts for the externally amplified array together with an XLR connection for the active bass section.
An Exakt Link connection is also provided for compatible external Exakt operation.
This makes PWAB suitable for a broader range of Linn system architectures while retaining the core acoustic design of the 343 platform.
Configured for the room
Space Optimisation with a compatible Linn DSM
When used with a compatible Linn DSM, 343 PWAB can form part of a Space Optimisation configuration.
For Exakt operation, the loudspeakers can be used with a compatible Exaktbox and external amplification, bringing Linn’s digital crossover architecture into the system.
We can specify the appropriate configuration around the source, amplification, room and listening requirements.
