Ortofon is the world's leading cartridge manufacturer and supplier of cartridges for turntables.
It was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1918 and initially made soundtracks for movies. In 1948 Ortofon developed its first moving coil cartridge, since then Ortofon now employ over 70 staff and more than 300 different cartridges have been developed and manufactured. This is a result of significant design experience and great technological know-how. Acoustics, materials, technology and micro mechanics are key competences in Ortofon's technological prowess.
Research and development is done with the company's own engineers supported by a strong network of acoustic know-how and industrial design in Denmark.
The Ortofon manufacturing unit in Nakskov in the south of Denmark has modern machinery combined with experienced operators, so human craftsmanship is delivered with uniform industrial quality.

The new 2M headshell is a practical and elegant solution for our customers who wish direct and easy mounting and replacement on their tonearm. The combination of 2M Headshell and 2M Series cartridge adds unique distinction to the turntable! The 2M Series of cartridges from Ortofon have been designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove. Indeed, it is Ortofon's lasting philosophy to only ever play the recorded sound, without colouration. The pre-existing range of 2M cartridges have rapidly been established as a reference point for all good moving magnet cartridges. From the introductory Red, through to the high-end Black; 2M is now a go-to name in moving magnet technology. 2012 sees Ortofon open up new markets within the same design principle of 2M. The 2M black is graced with a Shibata diamond stylus - the same diamond as on the acclaimed MC Jubilee. Its slim, highly polished profile allows an exceedingly wide contact area to the groove walls and ensures notably detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the most high-frequency groove information. Users of the 2M Black will enjoy the benefit of impeccable sound quality, along with reduced record & stylus wear, and reduced distortion and phase error as a result of the diamond’s improved tracking geometry The cartridge body used for the 2M Bronze and 2M Black is manufactured from a newly-developed Noryl plastic/glass combination, a revolutionary material which ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances. The 2M Bronze and 2M Black use a special upgraded engine, featuring split pole pins with a silver-plated copper wire.
