The CD Box S2 is a compact slot-load CD player, carefully manufactured to an industrial standard utilising aluminium casework and buttons. Designed to match the S2 electronics line, the added benefit to this design is that its small form-factor allows it to fit easily near any existing audio system. But it’s more than just a convenience piece, as it also features a premium sound performance.
The CD Box S2 is a pure CD player, allowing 1:1 bit-accurate CD playback, performing to a higher standard than many multi-format Disc players. Compared to its predecessor, the CD Box S, the inner workings of the CD Box S2 have been technically revised, utilising a mini-computer-based system to ensure the player perfectly reads “Redbook Standard” CDs for a true audiophile sound delivery.*
The CD Box S2’s new and advanced 384kHz DAC board enables a more precise and detailed conversion process, plus a new feature is the ability to switch between digital Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) and Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filters. FIR filters are more complex DSP-operations and require more computational power; however, they facilitate a finer, linear processing of the digital signal.
Controlled by either the supplied remote or the unit’s front-panel controls, and featuring a clear display, the CD Box S2 is effortless to use – though its minimalist exterior hides a sophisticated piece of specialist audio equipment. Connection is also simple either via RCA or digital optical outputs.
The CD Box S2 is the hi-fi CD player for CD owners that are tight on space, not in the market for a high-end player, or for those who simply want to access their beloved CDs at any time.
* This sophisticated approach results in slightly higher start-up and reading times, but the result is an audiophile performance from a compact player.
