We are excited to announce Devialet, the French company behind the magnificent sounding D-Premier amplifier, has just announced the addition of three new amplifier/DAC models, two of which now allow music listeners with smaller budgets to experience the magical Devialet sound. The new models include the Devialet 110 (£4,495 / 110 Watts), the Devialet 170 (£6,495 / 170 Watts) and the Devialet 240 (£11,895 / 240 Watts). Up until now Devialet has only had one product: the D-Premier. The D-Premier contained a cutting-edge class-A / Class-D hybrid amplifier and combined it with a digital to analogue converter and an all digital preamplifier section, amongst other features. The result wasn't just a convenient one box solution but one of the best sounding amplification products the world had ever heard; arguably one of the most relevant electronic components of the last decade, if not longer. The Devialet 240 will be the new improved replacement for the D-Premier amplifier,
For those of you who've never heard of Devialet, their first product, the D-Premier was heralded as one of the most influential pieces of Hi-Fi for its time, generating the most extraordinary review comments, such as:
John Atkinson in Stereophile Magazine
"Devialet's D-Premier amplifier is the most extraordinary product I have reviewed for Stereophile. Superb sound quality, future-proof design, everything you need in one box - it is the epitome of what a high-end audio product should be. Wow!"
Devialet’s breakthrough ADH (Analogue Digital Hybrid) double core technology and design promise unparalleled performance and guaranteed reliability. All of the Devialet amplifiers combine pure analogue sound with smart digital power delivery –offering the best of both the analog and digital worlds. Each new model utilises an advanced electronic circuit board with 2500 surface-mounted components made entirely in France, without any soldered wires. Highlights of the board include USB and Ethernet inputs, ultra low jitter digital inputs, an advanced phono stage MM/MC, the ultimate DSP for room correction and digital active crossover, as well as a dynamic and ultra efficient power supply.
Devialet is the first high-performance audio system fully driven by software and with regular and free upgrades. The software offers optimised signal processing algorithms and can be configured to your needs using a new online configurator.
The most interesting thing about these new amplifiers is Devialet's claim that the sound quality of each model is the same. The main differences are inputs, features and power output (the model name indicates the power output per channel into 6 ohms). If this is true and you dont require the power output or features of the 240 or 170 then you can enjoy exactly the same sound quality from the 110 for a fraction of the price.
Given the world-class sound quality that the D-Premier produced, that's not something that the smart and cost-conscious audiophile should overlook. It's no wonder that Devialet's new slogan is: "One day, everyone will own a Devialet."
Come and see this extraordinary range of amplifiers, arriving in our showroom over the coming weeks.

They say the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend time with Pedro from Devialet's UK distributor Absolute Sounds, who kindly brought with him the Devialet D-Premier amplifier that I've been so entrigued about. I've read so much about this product and even heard this amplifier a few times now but never in my own demo room with a pair of speakers that I know inside-out. So we connected it up to a pair of Martin Logan electrostatics and proceeded to configure this incredibly innovative amplifier via its web page and saved the configuration onto its SD card.
Not only does it look amazing this extraordinary audio device has a beauty on the outside that is mirrored on the inside. It is a fusion of bleeding-edge technology and freethinking innovation, culminating in perfectly realised form and function. The Devialet D-Premier embodies high-end product design and engineering at its finest, delivering a uniquely desirable audio concept.
Expect to see Devialet products in store very shortly...

Come and see and hear ELAC's impressively slim FS 407 floorstanding loudspeaker (£3239 pair), now on demonstration in our showroom.
This is an elegantly proportioned floor-standing loudspeaker that is beautiful to behold. Yet the FS 407 can effortlessly recreate the sound of a concert hall, even in large rooms
The stamping of the aluminum foil looks like the surface of a large crystal, this is where the term "Crystal Membrane" come from. This stamping stiffens the aluminum dome considerably which diminishes the membrane-internal resonances resulting in less sound coloration and additionally improves the large signal behaviour noticeably.
JET High definition audio: ELAC’s JET tweeter fascinates listeners with its dynamic and authentic audio, offering lots of headroom with a distinctly wider frequency range than conventional dome tweeters.
The ELAC JET tweeter is one of the most legendary tweeters in the hi-fi trade and has won international renown with its unusual transparent and effortless sound image.
The JET tweeter was developed to perfection on the basis of the famous 'Air Motion Transformer' by loudspeaker pioneer Dr Oskar Heil. Its principle: a concertinaed foil membrane is driven by a strong magnet system of neodymium rods.
This 'motor' drives the air considerably faster than the conventional pistonic technique. High sensitivity and extraordiary dynamics are the result.
Due to continuous improvement, the JET III tweeter now creates an effortless and airy resonance-free image up to 50,000 Hz.
Give us a call to arrange a demonstration of this high performance loudspeaker.

Sonus faber recently announced the presentation of its new line Venere, its world premiere, at the Hong Kong 2012 exhibition. Created to be a point of reference even beyond its own category, it is characterized by a design that takes its inspiration from Aida (yet younger and more aggressive) and a sound that is vivid, immediate and ready to appeal to all.
The Venere line is made up of two floor-standing models (Venere 3.0 e 2.5), two bookshelf models (Venere 2.0 and 1.5 for which a specially dedicated stand was designed, the Venere stand), a central channel (Venere centre) and a wall-mounted model (Venere wall).
This group of 6 speakers was carefully designed in order to satisfy both the lovers of two channel listening as well as multi-channel or home theatre enthusiasts. It is therefore able to provide high level response to a wide range of requirements and for an even larger range of listeners, because well reproduced music continues to be a wealth for all.
Thus, for Sonus faber, the Mission of the ‘Venere Project’ was that of designing a family of speakers suited to all markets, ready for diverse distribution solutions, decidedly contemporary, with a competitive price compared to products offered by our best competitors but with the usual features of quality, style, performance and design that has always defined every musical instrument bearing the Sonus faber mark.
In the Venere family Sonus Faber have considered the cornerstones of the history of the company, where tradition and innovation combine in a cabinet design inspired by the lyre shape of Aida, with a tilted top embellished by a sculpted element in tempered glass.
The double curve of its sides guarantees enormous structural strength and perfect control of the resonances generated by the drivers, just as the front positioning of the reflex conduct (elegantly veiled by the acoustic cloth) and the aerodynamic cabinet rear promote the versatility of use and ease of integration in the listening environment.
This element of ease can also be found in its piloting, so much so as to define these Musical instruments as eclectic, friendly, a good choice for anyone in all conditions.
In the tradition of Sonus faber, great attention has been given to the management of the acoustic signal, thanks to the implementation of bi-wiring terminals and the design of the crossover characterised by choices aimed at giving priority to a clean signal path and thus authentic music reproduction.
The drivers are entirely designed and developed by Sonus faber with the precious contribution of Joseph Szall, a true luminary in speakers and a constant member of the Technical Team of Sonus faber Labs.
In all models of the family the reproduction of the high range is given over to a 29mm tweeter with a soft dome in german DKM silk which ensures immense naturalness in emissions, exceptional dispersion and detail. The mid-low and low range frequencies are handled by speakers that have ‘free compression designed’ baskets and composite plastic Curv cones which guarantee uniformity in the tone and great speed and control.
The performance of all the drivers is enhanced by careful design and construction and through the unprecedented development of the front panel, which drives sound waves, and gives a lively and involving sound and perfect control of the emission phase thanks to the calibrated inclination of the front baffle.
To round off this meticulous aesthetic-functional creation we find the base in high rigidity tempered glass with adjustable aluminium feet for perfect placing.
Venere 2.5, Venere 1.5 and Venere center are available at present, while Venere 3.0, Venere 2.0 and Venere wall will be by the end of 2012.
The first available finishes are lacquered white, lacquered black and wood.
So how do they sound?
Fresh, enveloping, tonally correct but immediately enthralling. A sound that surprises the occasional listener and at the same time fully satisfies the most shrewd audiophile. This is the incredible strength of the Venere Project, designed to be the best answer to the entry-level segment. Evolved to be a product without boundaries and ready to surprise everyone with its incredible ability to focus voices, its amplitude of the sound-stage and its amazing dynamics. All the choices made during the design process show their full effect when listening, surpassing even the most optimistic expectations. Speakers at the service of Music.
We currently have the Venere 2.5 in high gloss white on demonstration in our showroom if you would like to visit us for a listen.

Come and hear Naim Audio's new Ovator S-400 loudspeaker, now on demonstration in Satin White (£3825)
With twin 165mm bass drivers and a 46mm BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) in a 40 Litre enclosure, the S-400 is designed for more modest listening rooms and can be used with less ambitious Naim amplification. Low frequency response still reaches down to 36Hz however and the S-400 gives only very little away to the S-600 in terms of dynamics and maximum level. The S-400 gives nothing away in music making however.
Thanks both to the BMR's exceptional inherent performance and to the absence of any mid/high frequency crossover discontinuity, it takes just a moment's listening to appreciate the Ovator S-400's breakthrough levels of musical coherence, timing and clarity.
The Ovator S-400 loudspeakers are pictured here playing with the following Naim Audio components:
Naim NDS Network Player
Naim NDX Network Player
Naim ND5 XS Network Player
Naim 555 PS Power Supply
Naim XPS Power Supply
Naim NAC 282 preamplifier
Naim NAP 250 power amplifier

Come and experience the latest version of the Quad Electrostatic loudspeaker, the Quad ESL-2912. Now playing in our showroom!
REFINING A CLASSIC: QUAD ESL EVOLVES
Quad have painstakingly improved one of the most lauded loudspeaker designs of all time to create the ESL-2812 and ESL-2912 – the company’s best electrostatic speakers yet!
When Quad’s founder, Peter Walker, gave full-range electrostatic loudspeaker technology to the world with the original ESL in the 1950s, he single-handedly smashed preconceptions of what a hi-fi loudspeaker could sound like. Since then, this legendary British audio brand has continued to refine Walker’s design through successive generations, maintaining an enviable position as maker of one of the most distinctive speakers ever devised; one that is loved, respected and admired throughout the world. Indeed, many audio critics and hi-fi aficionados refer to the Quad ESL as the greatest hi-fi product of all time.
Quad does not update its ESL speakers very often. The last change came in 2005, with the ESL-2805 and ESL-2905 (the last two digits in the name indicate the year of launch). These speakers represented the most significant evolution for years, sporting a number of technological improvements that brought universal critical acclaim. Their greatest sonic asset remained their extraordinary midrange – the most critical part of the frequency spectrum for music reproduction – demonstrating the effortless clarity, dexterity and openness that many critics believe is still unmatched.
Now, in 2012, comes the next phase in the ESL’s continuing evolution. The ESL-2812 and ESL-2912 are the best electrostatic speakers Quad has ever made, improving upon their predecessors with numerous refinements that will delight those who already know the company’s ESL designs, and astound those who are discovering them for the first time.
Quad ESL – the original electrostatic speaker
The difference between an electrostatic ‘panel’ speaker and the more common dynamic driver type is the use of an ultra-thin, electrically charged diaphragm, suspended in an electrostatic field to generate movement and thus sound waves (as opposed to woofer cones and tweeter domes, moved back and forth by a coil in a magnetic field). The diaphragm in Quad’s ESL speakers is made from a layer of stretched Mylar, ten times thinner than a human hair and so light that it approaches the mass of air to which it is coupled. As a result, there is no inertia inherent in the speaker’s moving parts and the diaphragm is able to respond to musical detail and transients with extreme precision.
Quad ESL speakers are among the very few that can reproduce a 1kHz squarewave precisely and cleanly.
To achieve this, they use a system of highly charged ‘stator’ elements either side of the diaphragm, coupled to a power supply that produces the necessary 5kV of EHT (Extra High Tension) charge that controls the diaphragm. How this extremely high voltage charge is produced and consistently maintained at the diaphragm to stator interface is the key to the ultra-low distortion of the Quad ESL’s sound.
Like the outgoing ESL-2805 and ESL-2905, the latest ESLs incorporate multiple electrostatic panels – four in the ESL-2812 and six in the larger ESL-2912. The two inner panels utilise concentric rings of electrodes to deliver pinpoint imaging from an ideal point source – a unique Quad innovation that ensures all listeners perceive accurate stereo imagery. All the panels are held within a high-mass structure of tensioned aluminium extrusions coupled to stainless steel supports, ensuring optimal transmission of sound energy and a supremely accurate transient performance.
Improving an all-time classic
The ESL-2805 and ESL-2905 were already great speakers, yet the challenge presented to Quad’s engineers was to make them better still, enhancing both performance and aesthetics whilst remaining true to Quad’s ESL legacy. They began by improving the power supply for EHT voltage, eliminating ‘creepage’ (the possibility of charge flowing between components on the circuit board) by developing a new two-layer PCB with 2oz copper, which ensures optimum insulation and distance between contacts and a symmetrical layout for the components. This new layout also facilitates an improvement in cable dressing, again reducing the effects of creepage, particularly in high-humidity environments.
New components have been introduced to the power supply, including Vishay metal film resistors and Murata audio-grade capacitors. Although not directly affecting the signal path, these components have a significant effect on the consistency of the EHT supply and therefore signal purity when reproducing music.
Attention has also been paid to the stators themselves. Each stator consists of a layer of copper on a thin, insulating backing, which is punched with a pattern of holes to make it sonically transparent. The copper is etched to provide the conductive pattern necessary to re-create the point source attributes of the Quad ESL. After etching, the copper needs to be insulated from the diaphragm, which will lie in close proximity to it.
In the ESL-2812 and ESL-2912, the insulation material is applied in three coats using a special spraying technique, perfected to avoid degradation of the EHT charge under high dynamic conditions where the diaphragm comes into close contact with the stator. These latest versions of the Quad ESL can thus play louder and handle more power than previous models.
Even so, as with any loudspeaker, it is possible to overdrive the new Quad ESLs. In cases where ultra-high output power amplifiers are used, power protection will come into play. As soon as overdriving is detected (by a momentary collapse of the EHT level or through arc detection) the speaker is temporarily muted and the illuminated Quad logo will flash. In this way, the user is instantly alerted to the overdrive state and can reduce the volume level.
Distortion from the ESL-2812 and ESL-2912 is so low that if the power protection circuit were not present, listeners would often be unaware of the extremely high sound pressure levels that these speakers can generate. For a conventional speaker, the rapidly increasing distortion at higher power levels is an obvious indicator that the hi-fi system is playing very loudly. With the ESLs, no such distortion makes itself known, as the speakers will play cleanly up to their maximum potential. By providing visual indication of the overload condition, the user will immediately know that the system is being played beyond its dynamic capability.
A number of external improvements serve to further enhance the sonic performance and aesthetic appearance of the new ESLs, both of which are slightly taller, narrower and less deep than their predecessors. A new net cloth has been specified to cover the elements, delivering superior audio transparency in addition to a smarter, cleaner look. The underlying grille support sports newly designed strengthening ribs, reducing the possibility of resonance and ensuring the grille cloth remains under tension without overstretching.
Matching wood-veneered panels now adorn the top of the speakers and the sides of their substantial bases, formed from high-density plywood to further damp frame resonances and smothered in layers of piano lacquer. The shielding cover on the base is embossed with the Quad logo and all typography is now in gold lacquer paint; the gold-plated cable terminals, corresponding PCBs and wiring have also been enhanced.
Price and availability
As a result of these refinements, the Quad ESL – ever a tour-de-force in the world of hi-fi loudspeakers – has reached its pinnacle. The ESL-2812 and ESL-2912 can play louder and handle more power than their predecessors, are more pleasing to the eye, and deliver even greater sonic clarity. Both speakers are now available with an SRP of £6,499.95 per pair and £7,999.95 per pair respectively.
“Many audiophiles find the elegant ‘driverless’ sound of an electrostatic will never be matched by even the best conventional, dynamic loudspeakers. For those, the ESL-2912 is the new king”

Pictured here is Linn's flagship Sekrit IW10 in-wall loudspeakers. These speakers are designed for in-wall applications. Once fitted they sit flush in your wall with only a discrete white metal grille showing.
They can be single wired like any other speaker or as we have configured them here, they can be made Aktiv. Using a Linn Majik 6100 (6 x 100w) power amplifier we are driving each drive unit independently.
A common trend in both new-build properties and major renovations is to have a large open plan family/living area, including Kitchen, Dining and living areas. With the majority of family time spent in this area it's no surprise that this is where our customers want the best possible sound. Conventional cabinet speakers aren't always practical in such areas and the IW10 in-wall loudspeakers offer an excellent alternative with the most incredible sound quality.
The majority of properties we install multi-room systems into are adopting Sonos and for consistency of control we have shown here how you can squeeze every last drop of sound quality from a Sonos Connect. We have taken the digital output from the Sonos Connect into an Audiolab M-DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter) before entering the Majik 6100 power amplifier which is actively driving the speakers.
This system can be heard at our upcoming Linn event Saturday 1st September.

Visit our showroom to see Epson's flagship EH-TW9000W home cinema projector in action. We have ceiling mounted it using Future Automation's PM-UNI projector ceiling mount system.
With an impressive 2400 lumens output we have installed this projector into our main showroom area to demonstrate quite how punchy this projector is, even in daylight conditions.
We have it wirelessly connected to Onkyo's BD-SP309 3D Blu-ray player and TX-NR616 Receiver. So as far as cables are concerned, there is none, apart from a single mains lead. The 3D HDMI signal is transmitted wirelessly from the Onkyo AV Receiver.
The discrete white case colour makes it ideal for installation into dual purpose rooms such as your Lounge/Living room.
If you're thinking about adding a 3D capable full HD projector to your home then why not pop in or give us a call today!

We've just had the privilege of hearing Elipson's
brand new Planet LW
They look identical to the Planet L but include an incredibly powerful 100W Bang & Olufsen ICEpower digital amplifier along with Elipson's Clear Audio technology. Each speaker plugs into the mains, so no need for a cable to link the two speakers which helps keep cable mess to a minimum. First impressions are extremely promising. Using music from our iPhone and iPad they effortlessly filled the room with a big powerful, controlled sound. UK Retail price is yet to be confirmed but expected to be around £1300 for a pair. Pictured here with the grille removed, showing the IR receiver at the bottom of the speaker.
Available in the same finishes: White, black or red lacquered. Delivered with table ring. Optional: exclusive stand, wall and ceiling mount bracket.

Following a very successful Linn DSM event on Saturday (7th July 2012) we had the perfect opportunity to put the new Linn Kiko through its paces.
Arriving with us first thing Saturday morning, we received one of the very first off the Kiko production line.
First impressions are very good indeed with a sound quality far superior to what I had expected. So good is the sound and due to the Aktiv operation of the system out of the box I would equate the sound of the Kiko to a Majik DSM partnered with Majik 109 loudspeakers in passive operation.
Why not pop into store to have a play and a listen to this stunning new high performance lifestyle system from Linn
A big thank you to all our customers that attended the event on Saturday. Don't forget that we're holding these DSM events on the first Saturday of the month throughout our so called 'summer'.

Today we had the opportunity to hear for the first time KEFs new LS50 Mini Monitor loudspeakers (pictured, bottom speaker).
So impressed with the studio-grade performance of this mini monitor, I placed my opening order there and then!
Beautifully made with some very clever cabinet technology going on. These speakers sounded great; an incredibly clean sound yet always smooth.
Also pictured is KEFs R100 loudspeaker (£600 pr) in the stunning new high gloss white finish.

Visit in store to hear how Simple Audio's Roomplayers compare to the mighty Sonos
If you haven't heard of Simple Audio before, the company was founded in 2008 by ex-Linn employees.
Their brief was to create a new system that would deliver the very best quality audio possible, not only now, but in the future. They wanted it to be simple to use and simple to set up. It would have to be scalable too, capable of meeting the music needs of a single person, or that of an entire family home. What's more, they wanted it to be an affordable high-definition digital sound system without a high-end price tag, so everyone could benefit from the joy of experiencing the wonderful depth and richness of studio-quality music in their own home.
The first thing the Simple Audio team decided was to use HomePlug AV Powerline technology to transmit music to different zones around the home, rather than wireless networks used by the likes of Sonos and AirPlay.
Why? Because PowerLine technology is more robust, therefore minimising the dropout and sound quality problems often associated with wi-fi.
The aim was to create a system that is simple to set up, distributing music via the mains electricity cables already installed in your home.
The other key requirement was to make the system capable of playing everything from standard MP3 files to high-resolution 24-bit studio quality music. To that end, the system will handle MP3, AAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC and Apple Lossless files, as well as internet radio. But not WMA or DRM files.
You also get access to Deezer and WE7, plus Tunein internet radio, so you'll never be short of music to play.
In addition to playing back music from your iTunes library and internet music services, it will also handle music from attached devices such as an iPod or iPhone via the 3.5mm jack on the front.
Simple Audio is offering two products. The Roomplayer I (£599), with 2x50W built-in Class D digital amplifier, which connects directly to your speakers.
If you already have an existing hi-fi or home cinema system, you can add the Roomplayer II (£499) which does without the built-in amplification.
There's also a free iOS control app for your iPhone or iPad, although it hasn't yet been optimised for the iPad's larger screen – that development is in the pipeline we're told.

The new Sonos SUB takes the whole Sonos system one seismic step closer to the spine-curling, jaw-dropping, full body experience music was meant to be.
Listen down deep
Fills an entire room with thick layers of deep, bottomless sound that let you hear and feel every chord, kick, splash and roll. You won’t just hear the difference our wireless subwoofer makes—you’ll feel it in your bones.
All sound, zero vibration
Two force-cancelling speakers positioned face-to-face means all the sound and energy from the music comes through loud and clear, and none of it is lost in cabinet buzz or rattle.
No wiring. No programming. Press one button, follow the simple prompts on your Controller and the system automatically adjusts audio settings to perfectly balance your SUB and the paired Sonos component for a flawlessly optimized, whole-room listening experience.
Wherever you want it
Because it’s wireless and designed to perform perfectly, whether positioned horizontally or vertically, you can put the SUB anywhere you want in the room—even lying flat under a couch.
SUB WORKS WITH all Sonos amplified components: CONNECT:AMP/ZP120/ZP100; PLAY:5/ZonePlayer S:5; PLAY:3. Does not work with the non-amplified Sonos CONNECT/ZP90/ZP80.

Linn has been awarded the most prestigious accolade available to UK businesses: the Queen's Award for Enterprise.
Linn's award in the Innovation category celebrates the success of our digital streaming technology - Linn DS.
Approved by Her Majesty The Queen following the recommendation of the Prime Minister, the Queen's Award for Innovation recognises the engineering prowess and passion for music embodied within Linn's industry-leading range of DS systems.
A royal connection
Awarded the Royal Warrant in 2002 as providers of entertainment systems to the Royal Household, winning this award for innovation exactly a decade later is especially pleasing.
From the birth of the Sondek LP12 40 years ago to the development of Linn's latest digital stream players, they have never been afraid to think differently.
Linn's success with 24-bit Studio Master music recordings led Gramophone magazine to name them Label of the Year in 2010, with their editor James Jolly praising Linn Records as "the very model of a modern record company".
The future of music
Gilad Tiefenbrun, Linn's Managing Director, is delighted to receive the Queen's Award for Enterprise in Innovation:
"Innovation is at the heart of Linn. We designed our DS platform from scratch, starting in 2004, and launching our first product, the Klimax DS, in 2007. Klimax DS immediately set a new performance benchmark in home music systems. Since then, we've released a full range of DS systems across the price spectrum, with all of them playing everything from mp3 to 24-bit Studio Master and making the music sound better. Our most recent updates let you play music wirelessly from computers and mobile devices, stream online music and movies, and connect everything in the modern living room through your Linn system."
The launch of DSM Systems has pushed Linn DS technology even further forward, with recent upgrades improving the audio quality of movies, games and online services such as Spotify, YouTube and Netflix for all Linn DS owners.

All good things must come to an end. So, effective May 31st, Sonos will be discontinuing sales of the Sonos CONTROL (CR200). The CONTROL has provided Sonos customers with a fast way to play music for many years, but Sonos now feel confident that customers can control all the music on earth using their free apps instead.
With the recent addition of new Sonos Controller apps for Mac and PC, customers can control Sonos on smartphones, tablets and computers—in iOS and Android—for free. Which means you can spend the money you would have spent on a CONTROL on an extra room of music. For just £259, you can add the small, sexy, tuck in a corner, and blow out the roof PLAY:3.
Here at Stoneaudio we have always championed the use of the CR200 CONTROL. iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android devices all work great as secondary controllers but you cannot beat the speed of use of the Sonos CONTROL. For one, you don't have to enter the passcode on your iPhone and then load the Sonos app just to mute the kitchen speaker because the telephone is ringing. This may sound small fry but when you own and use a Sonos system every day you come to realise that the reason it is so great is because its faster than every other system out there. Not so when you're using a 3rd party device! Using the hard buttons found on the Sonos CONTROL there is no quicker way to operate your Sonos system. For 2, it's reassuring that your multi-room system has a dedicated controller that can more often than not be found on its charging cradle. Unless every body in your household has access to an iPhone, iPad etc.. these devices disappear out of the house with their owners each day, leaving the system without a convenient form of control? Personally I think its a real shame the Sonos CONTROL is going. We have plenty of stock so whilst you still can, grab the best device for controlling a Sonos system. Order your Sonos CONTROL today!
The Sonos CONTROL (CR200) product warranty will be supported for two years from the date of registration.
Software updates will continue for the foreseeable future.

If you’ve never heard music on a Linn, you might find it difficult to imagine how good your favourite song or album could sound at home. But music always sounds better with Linn. Linn's passion for music has inspired them to produce fantastic music too. They capture the finest performances and let you download them at full Studio Master quality. From CD to vinyl, MP3 to Studio Master, play it through a Linn and hear what you’ve been missing.
Spend more time listening to great music, not fighting with technology. Your favourite music shouldn’t be tied to one computer or type of player, and you shouldn’t have to sign in to hear your own collection. Separate the music from the player? - store your music centrally and stream it in high quality to as many rooms as you wish.
It’s easy to get started with a Linn system because it works with the products you already use every day. You’ll get better sound from your existing audio sources and you’ll be able to control your Linn using the mobile devices you already own. From storage to control, from movies to games, Linn have made sure their systems will work with what you’ve already got. And what you’ll have next year. Because Linn don’t know what your phone will look like in five years but they do know you’ll still want to listen to music.
Linn make products that last for decades, not just a year or two. Linn make music systems that grow with you and adapt to changes in your life. When technology changes Linn systems don’t stop working, they evolve. Everything Linn make is modular and their open approach means you can mix and match, combine old and new. Linn don’t make disposable products and they won’t force you to buy a new system just because a new music format or service is launched. The longer you have a Linn, the more you’ll appreciate it.
Linn systems sound better and last longer because Linn always focus on what they do best: making music sound great. Everything else is secondary. If it sounds better, it is better. Just listen.
Why not pop in and see us in the Linn Lounge, we look forward to your visit.

Released today in the UK Apple App Store, the Kaleidescape App for iPad is the perfect addition to you existing Kaleidescape system. The free app offers the convenience of browsing without interrupting playback, so you can guide your guests through the best moments in your collection. For one example, you can filter instantly by actor, director, or genre, so that while friends and family enjoy the famous Dead Parrot sketch, you can select another great John Cleese scene.
Or just select any room to see what's playing or even start another movie. "Using the iPad app, I can see what the kids are watching no matter where I am in the home," said Denise M., mother of three and Kaleidescape System owner." I can even see how much longer the movie will play, and when it's over, I can pick something else for them to watch."
"I no longer need to be in front of the television to fully control the system," said David Daniels of Electronic Systems Consultants in Aspen, CO. "For one thing, I can be outside, by the pool, picking out music. And if I like what's playing, I can easily save it to play it again later."
"...our new Kaleidescape-designed iPad app that lives up to our reputation for simple user interfaces."
Michael Malcolm, Founder, Chairman, and CEO.
Kaleidescape designs and manufactures the world's leading DVD and Blu-ray movie servers, products that deliver the premier movie-watching experience for your home. We have recently spent some time getting to know the recently introduced Sony BRAVIA 2011 range of TV's, In particular the flagship KDL-55HX923. Without even watching a single TV programme we kept ourselves busy connecting to our twitter account, making skype calls, surfing the internet, streaming music from our RipNAS and also using Sony's Qriocity music and video on demand service.
Most impressive was the ability to use an iPhone or an iPad to control the TV using a Free App called Media Remote. Also available on any Android based smartphone. In particular text entry becomes so much easier than having to use the TV remote. Using your iPhone or iPad you can send messages on Facebook or Twitter, find clips on YouTube and best of all easily enter website addresses.
With Remote Keyboard you can also use your Vaio notebook in a similar way.
If you've recently purchased a Sony internet TV or are considering purchasing one then please don't hesitate to pop into store to see and learn about these additional features:

Sonos, the manufacturer of the wireless Hi-Fi system, continues to lower its entry price with the release today of the Play:3
, which packs a high-quality set of speakers with the electronics necessary to stream music from your PC or the internet.
At £259 each, the Play:3
is the cheapest ZonePlayer to date. While you can run just one Play:3
(as long as you connect it directly to your router), to get the full benefits of the Sonos system you'll appreciate more having at least two.
That will allow you to use Sonos's killer feature, the ability to play the same music in sync in different rooms of your house. A couple of other qualities that set Sonos apart: You don't need to keep your computer on for the system to access streaming music services. And Sonos components automatically create a mesh network to communicate among themselves. That network is frequently more reliable than your home's own Wi-Fi network.
In addition to playing music stored on a PC or Mac, Sonos hooks into a large number of Web streaming services, including LastFM, Napster and Spotify.
is a trapezoidal device that would fit into a shoebox with plenty of room to spare. It contains three amplifiers and drivers, two fewer than Sonos's first self-contained device, the £399 Play:5
(formerly known as the ZPS5)
We've had the opportunity to listen to both players today and there's a definite difference. The Play:3
's sound felt a little less detailed than that of the Play:5
and considerably less bass weight as you might expect. But the sound was still full, crisp and loud if you pushed it. Make no mistake: Sonos knows how to engineer speakers.
weighs quite a bit less than the Play:5
, but its the new device's smaller size that opens up some new possibilities. Because its a little over half the height of the Play:5
, it will be much less dominating on a living room side table.
has a threaded hole on the back which lets you wall mount it. One nifty feature of the Play:3
: You can set it horizontally or vertically without affecting the sound. A component within the device detects its orientation and changes the equalization of the speakers to accommodate the position.

This summer add 2 extra channels of Linn amplification for free when you buy any Linn Majik or Linn Akurate power amplifier during Linn’s +2 promo.
+2 means that, for a limited time, you can get a Majik 4100 for the price of a Majik 2100, or an Akurate 4200 for the price of an Akurate 2200, giving you +2 or two extra amplifier channels in each example.
Alternatively, if you’re thinking of buying an amplifier to go fully Aktiv, we’ll let you choose between the extra channels you need or free Aktiv cards…whichever saves you more money.
Normally, one amplifier channel is required per speaker, so a Majik 2100 or an Akurate 2200 would be enough to power a pair of stereo loudspeakers.
An extra two channels of amplification immediately allows you to bi-amp a stereo playback system to significantly improve performance. Bi-amping reduces distortion and increases separation between high and low frequencies, with individual speaker drive units powered with greater efficiency and control.
Linn's +2 promo makes it easier for you to experience the quality of Linn amplification, helping you to reach the number of amplification channels you need for less and hear the difference Linn power amplifiers can make to your favourite music and movies.
From bi-amping to fully Aktiv
Bi-amping is an easy first step along the multi-amping path (tri-amping, quad-amping) towards the audio nirvana of fully Aktiv, where all speaker drive units (bass, mid, tweeter etc.) are driven individually by their own amplifier channels and use their own Aktiv filters.
Aktiv playback systems benefit from improved timing and control, as well as lower distortion across the entire frequency range thanks to the elimination of electronic interaction within the passive crossover. Why go Aktiv?
If this all seems a bit complicated, don’t worry - simply pay us a visit and we will be happy to demonstrate the difference between a passive and Aktiv system, and talk you through the options for your system.
And if you’re still holding on to your precious LK-style amplifiers, there’s never been a better time to upgrade them or pass them on to someone else - if you’re already running an Aktiv LK-system then we’ll throw in the Aktiv card adaptors required to use your existing Aktiv cards in your new amps. Majik and Akurate power amplifiers feature Linn's Chakra and Dynamik technologies for efficient, responsive and distortion-free amplification. Terms and Conditions apply.

Sony have been working to bring the 125th Wimbledon Tennis Championships to life in stunning 3D. Whilst their relationship has been common knowledge for some months it was only recently announced that the finals weekend would be broadcast live in 3D via the BBC HD channel.
Sony has been at the very heart of this operation, with its Broadcast division being instrumental to bringing this exciting event to consumers and whilst some other brands have jumped on the bandwagon trying to claim Wimbledon for their own, Sony has been the driving force behind this and other 3D sporting events over the past few months such as the UEFA Champions League final and the Ryder Cup.

35 years after Ivor invented Linn’s original Isobarik loudspeaker, breakthroughs in acoustic development and manufacturing have enabled Linn to bring back this much-loved loudspeaker design, re-invented to meet the demands of today’s discerning customer.
The new Linn Majik Isobarik uses twin ‘face-to-face’ bass drivers, mounted inside and at the bottom of the cabinet and working in tandem to produce very deep and controlled bass from a relatively compact enclosure.
Linn’s new Isobarik technology is combined with their latest playback developments, including the 2K driver array, to create a perfectly even sound response throughout the room.
An inspired new crossover design and ingenious bass mounting solution has enabled Linn to build a fantastic all-round loudspeaker which will appeal to everyone, whatever their taste in music.
This full range loudspeaker with a genuine subwoofer is well within reach of many customers. It maintains the unmistakeable musical character of a Linn loudspeaker but thanks to the Isobarik bass system, it packs a powerful punch at the low end too.
We will very shortly be receiving our demonstration pair of Majik Isobariks, so get in touch to arrange a demonstration of these magnificent loudspeakers.
In the meantime see further product and pricing information here

Cash and product donations from Sony companies globally
Sony has pledged to help families and individuals affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck the northern region of Japan on March 11 this year.
Sony Group companies are directly donating a total of 300 million Japanese yen to help relief and recovery efforts among communities affected by the tragedy.
In addition, a disaster relief fund will collect donations from Sony employees worldwide: their personal contributions will be matched by the company.
Sony is also donating 30,000 radios to assist the relief of earthquake victims. Going forward, Sony Group will make further product donations in response to local needs of the affected communities.
The Tohoku region is historically important for Sony, with a high concentration of manufacturing sites. Many employees and their families living in the region have been affected by these devastating events.
“In times like these, we are reminded of how important and fragile we are and of the positive impact we can have – both as individuals and, collectively, as a Company – to assist those in need,” said Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO and President, Sony Corporation. “We will continue to make the utmost effort to help the swift recovery of the affected communities in the region.”

Linn's commitment to bringing the highest quality products and service to customers has driven them since Linn was founded almost 40 years ago, and their new, enhanced warranty policy further supports this dedication.
From 1st May 2011, Linn customers will automatically receive a 5 year parts and labour warranty on all new products as standard, making Linn’s warranty policy the most comprehensive and accessible in the market.
What’s more, as a gesture to customers who have purchased a new product within the last 5 years, Linn will automatically apply the balance of warranty remaining in line with the new policy, for example, a product purchased in 2008 but not registered will now automatically have 2 years of full parts and labour warranty remaining.
The new 5 year warranty is also fully transferrable between owners, so a second hand product will still be covered as long as it is still within the warranty period and the product remains in the territory in which it was first purchased.

A Class Above
The multiple award-winning Q Series has always exemplified KEF's conviction that new materials and technologies can, when applied with intelligence and imagination, reproduce recordings so perfectly that they sound indistinguishable from the live event. This is more true now than ever before.
As the latest expression of this design philosophy, the new range immerses you in three-dimensional imagery of a richness and clarity that until now has been the exclusive preserve of speakers costing many times more.
The all new Q Series from KEF represents a quantum leap in terms of listening pleasure. At its heart is a brand new Uni-Q driver array. Grab Your Bundle 250 Whilst Stocks Last
Effective September 30th, Sonos will be discontinuing the Sonos Bundle 250 (BU250). Individual components will remain but sold separately at their full price. With the enormous success of the Sonos Controller for iPhone and the all-in-one Sonos S5, this bundle is not always the most effective entry point for new Sonos customers.
Sonos's ultimate goal in making this decision is to provide the very best product mix to its music loving consumers.
Whilst stocks last there is still a significant saving to be made in purchasing the Bundle 250. Typically the ZP90 is used with a Home Cinema System or Receiver so that you don't have to double up on speakers in the living room. The 2nd Zoneplayer (ZP120) included in the bundle can be used to drive speakers in another zone and if you take advantage of our half price in-ceiling speaker offer then there's even further savings to be made. more information

Elite Audio Components take Quad to the next level
Quad replaces the highly rated 99 Series with an all-new range of components, including a CD player, radio tuner, preamp and two power amps
Quad is delighted to announce the launch of the Elite Series, a new range of audio components replacing the long-running and highly successful 99 Series, which first appeared in 1999. Like their predecessors, the Elite components are compact in size and designed with performance, simplicity and versatility firmly in mind.
The Elite models supersede their 99 Series counterparts product-for-product. The initial launch consists of five components: the Elite CDS CD player (£799.95), Elite FM tuner (£599.95), Elite Pre preamplifier (£849.95), Elite Stereo stereo power amplifier (£699.95) and Elite Mono monoblock power amplifier (£649.95). Two further components will join the range by the end of the year: a second CD player that incorporates digital preamp functionality and an additional stereo power amp to replace the existing 909.
Improving Upon a Classic
In designing the Elite Series, the challenge for Quad's engineers was to improve upon the established 99 Series without undermining the qualities that made the range so successful. Outwardly, the components are similar, retaining the midi-width aluminium casework and distinctive look of the 99 Series models, enhanced with subtle updates for a sleeker, smarter appearance.
However, the critical changes are within. A painstaking redesign operation began three years ago, with every internal component scrutinised in turn. Through an exhaustive process of modifying, measuring, listening then modifying again, the 99 Series models gradually evolved into their Elite counterparts. Throughout this process, Quad's original slogan "the closest approach to the original sound" was paramount. Only modifications that brought about a tangible improvement in sound quality were sanctioned for the final designs, with tight tolerances strictly adhered to in order to ensure perfect matching from unit to unit.
Elite CDS CD Player
The CDS enjoys significant revisions throughout, including a new transport mechanism and servo system. Audio data is regulated by a high-performance master clock to minimise jitter (digital distortion), then fed to a top-end Crystal 24-bit/192kHz DAC, which replaces the older 24-bit/96kHz chip used by the player's predecessor. The highest quality electronic components are specified throughout, with multi-layer circuit boards and Quad's advanced, proprietary filtering and control software.
Elite FM Tuner
The Elite FM is a clean-sheet design incorporating a high-grade FM stereo decoder with discrete Class A stages, coupled to Class A output stages and high-quality polypropylene capacitors in the signal path. Genuine audiophile quality is assured from FM signals anywhere in the world, eclipsing the performance of many highly rated and considerably more costly hi-fi radio tuners in the process.
Elite Pre Preamplifier
The Elite Pre forms the heart of any system in which it is placed, and a great deal of work has been undertaken to further enhance the excellent levels of musical transparency delivered by its 99 Series predecessor. This has been achieved by careful component selection and re-tuning of the signal path, whilst maintaining the advanced facilities that are unique to Quad's solid-state preamps, including Quad Link and Amp Bus connectivity (see below), bypass-switchable filter adjustment for bass and treble, and Quad's unique Tilt control that tailors the entire frequency response to suit the users preferred balance.
The Elite Pre is packed with technical innovation including noiseless solid-state signal switching and digitally addressed analogue volume and balance controls, which track both left and right channels with exceptional accuracy (better than 0.1dB). A highly specified phono stage is provided for turntables, too.
Elite Stereo and Elite Mono Power Amplifiers
The Elite Stereo and Elite Mono power amps have been carefully revised to ensure they retain their predecessors acclaimed musicality, whilst delivering enhanced punch and drive, alongside greater finesse and resolution. New ultra-low-noise transformers are used, and all power supply components have been specially selected following extensive listening tests. Delivering 2x80W and 150W respectively, both Stereo and Mono offer instantaneous overload recovery and full protection against over-driving without resorting to output line fuses or relays, which degrade the quality of the audio signal. Both amps deliver more sonic presence and impact than their predecessors, whenever the music requires it.
Elite System Concept Individually, each Elite component has been engineered to perform at the top of its class. Combine them to form a complete high-performance music system and the standard they set is higher still. Their smart, understated looks and compact dimensions are both practical and pleasing to the eye, while Quad's proprietary Quad Link and Amp Bus technologies ensure perfect synergy between every Elite component, optimising sound quality and simplifying system connectivity and control.
The Quad Link system bus is used to connect the Elite CDS CD player and Elite FM tuner to the Elite Pre preamp. It carries the audio signal in fully balanced form, plus system commands enabling all three components to be controlled via a single remote handset. Similarly, Amp Bus delivers balanced audio and control signals between the Elite Pre preamp and Elite Stereo or Elite Mono power amps. Several power amps may be daisy-chained via Amp Bus, giving the user the option to bi-amp or even tri-amp with ease. All Elite components (except the Elite FM) also provide conventional RCA sockets, for connection to components from other brands.
Every Elite component has been designed to deliver the best possible user experience. The build is solid, the controls straightforward and the sound painstakingly tuned to maximise musical enjoyment. The natural, unforced sonic scale, pace and dynamism that made the 99 Series so highly rated remains intact, imbued with even greater resolve to deliver the most captivating musical performance possible, whilst maintaining highly competitive pricing throughout the range. Quad products have always been about the musical experience, first and foremost, and never has this been better exemplified than by the performance of the new Elite Series.
Jason Greenslade, a highly experienced audio equipment engineer who has held senior positions with Arcam, Cyrus, NAD, Roksan, Soundcraft and TAG McLaren Audio, leads the design team charged with delivering the Quad Elite Series. Given the longstanding success of the 99 Series, his responsibility is considerable, yet Quad has allowed Jason all the time and resources required to ensure every Elite component surpasses the performance of its predecessor.
According to Peter Comeau, Director of Acoustic Design for IAG (Quad's parent company), the Elite Series represents the best solid-state component range Quad has ever produced. Listening to the Elite pre/power with the Elite CD player as its source I am struck by how clean, clear and effortless is the musical delivery of this combination, says Peter. This Elite system has now taken pride of place in my listening room.
The Quad Elite CDS, Elite FM, Elite Pre, Elite Stereo and Elite Mono are available from September.

AudioLab delivers new CD players with advanced digital connectivity
8200CD and 8200CDQ pair class-leading sound with innovative functionality, including PC/Mac connectivity and selectable digital filters
Audiolab is delighted to announce the launch of two CD players, the 8200CD and 8200CDQ. The new players are the first products to emerge from Audiolab's latest generation of audio components, the 8200 Series, sporting clean-sheet circuit design and supplying a unique array of facilities and connectivity options, including high-definition USB ports.
The 8200CD is priced at £699.95 and includes the following highlights:
* Exceptional connectivity, including a USB port and XLR outputs
* USB port can be used to enhance the quality of digital audio playback from a PC, Mac etc.
* Any PC/Mac media player (iTunes etc.) can be controlled via the Audiolab's remote handset
* USB port also allows the player to be upgraded via firmware updates in the future
* Four selectable digital filters enable the user to tailor the sound to his/her own taste
* Ultra-high-quality 32-bit DAC from ESS Technology
* Proprietary, discrete master clock ensures ultra-low jitter
* Balanced, discrete, Class A output stages maximise sound quality
The 8200CDQ is priced at £899.95 and sports the same specifications as the 8200CD with the addition of a complete digital/analogue preamplifier, all in an identically sized chassis.
While most CD players are designed purely for CD playback, the 8200CD and 8200CDQ have been created with flexibility firmly in mind. Their architecture is perhaps best described as a DAC + CD, rather than as a CD player in the traditional sense. The DAC (Digital-to-Analogue Converter) is the cornerstone of their design, which is why Audiolab has chosen the Sabre 32-bit audio DAC from ESS Technology to carry out D-to-A conversion.
This DAC solution is rarely used in CD players because it is much more expensive than other audio DACs, and players that incorporate it usually cost many thousands of pounds. However, Audiolab believes that this is the best sounding DAC currently available, so rather than reverting to the cheaper modules found in most CD players, the ESS Sabre is embedded at the heart of the 8200CD and 8200CDQ.
The provision of digital inputs optical, coaxial and USB means the 8200CD and 8200CDQ can be used to deliver top-quality sound from all kinds of digital sources, including audio files from computers and other media devices. Thus, all music benefits from the superb sound quality produced by the players DAC and discrete Class A output stages.
While most USB connections only support data up to 16-bit/48kHz, the 8200CD and 8200CDQ accept data right up to 24-bit/96kHz via USB, with bit depth and sampling frequency shown in real time on the player's LCD display. In addition, the USB link is asynchronous, this means data is regulated by the master clock in the player, rather than by the computer at the source, thus helping to minimise jitter (digital distortion).
The user can control the media player on his/her PC or Mac via the Audiolab remote, with the control signal transferred back to the computer via the USB port. This facility is driverless (in other words, it is built into the operating system) and is compatible with all media players Apple iTunes, Windows Media Player etc.
Both the 8200CD and 8200CDQ incorporate a clock-locked CD transport, delivering excellent CD sound quality. All digital music, whether from CD or an external source, benefits from four selectable filter settings:
* Slow Roll-Off (delivers a smoother style of sound)
* Fast Roll-Off (delivers a crisper style of sound)
* Optimal Spectrum (delivers a flat response and optimal lab measurements)
* Optimal Transient (enhances transient response, thus promoting sonic pace and flow)
Users may switch between these settings via the remote, thus tailoring the sound according to taste. In blind listening trials conducted during development, the Optimal Transient setting proved most popular, closely followed by Optimal Spectrum. Users may decide to stick to their favourite filter setting or, if they wish, switch between the various settings to suit different music and recording styles. New filter upgrades will be made available for users to download and install via USB in the future.
The 8200CD and 8200CDQ enjoy extremely low levels of jitter thanks to the DAC's unique coupling with Audiolab's proprietary, discrete master clock, to the benefit of all forms of digital audio. Once converted to analogue, music signals are passed through a balanced, discrete, Class A FET output stage and on to the users amplifier via either single-ended RCA or fully balanced XLR outputs. Four-layer PCB (Printed Circuit Board) construction and 34 regulated power supplies help to maintain optimal signal quality throughout.
In addition to the above, the 8200CDQ adds full preamp functionality whilst maintaining the same chassis size as the 8200CD. The existing digital inputs are joined by three line-level analogue inputs, providing source selection and volume control in the analogue domain. The preamplifier section is fully balanced and all analogue input signals are converted to balanced form, helping to reduce distortion and noise. Class A gain structures are present throughout, and users may choose between preamplification in the analogue or digital domain in respect of the digital inputs. In addition, the 8200CDQ adds a direct-coupled, discrete, Class A headphone amplifier, accessible via a socket on the front panel.
John Westlake leads the design team responsible for developing the 8200CD and 8200CDQ. Johns technical skills have delivered award-winning digital audio products spanning the last two decades and a variety of companies have benefitted from his expertise, from Cambridge Audio and Pink Triangle to Logitech and Bose. His research is also utilised by a number of market leading electronic component manufacturers, including Zetex Semiconductors and Wolfson Microelectronics.
John is convinced that the 8200CD and 8200CDQ are the finest CD players he has ever designed and Peter Comeau, Director of Acoustic Design for IAG (Audiolab's parent company), agrees. After many years of seeking a CD player that can bring me the level of musical emotion inspired by great performances on vinyl, I feel I've finally discovered, in the Audiolab 8200CD, a player that can do full justice to the music I have in my CD collection, says Peter. At last I can forget the source and just listen to the music.
The Audiolab 8200CD is available from late August at £699.95, with the 8200CDQ arriving in September at £899.95. Both models are solidly built with all-aluminium casework and are available in a choice of silver (natural aluminium) or classic Audiolab black.
The 8200CD and 8200CDQ are the first of a new generation of Audiolab products. A range of amplifiers is set to follow, forming the backbone of the all-new Audiolab 8200 Series.

New speaker range delivers exceptional sound at affordable prices
We are delighted to announce the launch of the Mission MX Series, an all-new range of speakers that exemplifies the company's longstanding reputation for delivering excellent sound at affordable price points.
The range consists of five stereo models: the MX-S (£119.95 per pair), MX-1 (£149.95 per pair) and MX-2 (£199.95 per pair) are standmount speakers, while the MX-3 (£349.95 per pair), MX-4 (£499.95 per pair) and MX-5 (£599.95 per pair) are floorstanders. In addition, there are two dedicated centre channel speakers for home cinema use, the MX-C1 (£129.95) and MX-C2 (£179.95).
New Mission active subwoofers will join the line-up soon. Every speaker in the Mission MX Series is designed to deliver maximum sound for minimum outlay, in a practical design that's purpose-built for modern living. Every model is specifically designed to work well when positioned close to a wall, making the speakers easy to position in typical rooms.
They are also engineered to deliver a balanced sound both on- and off-axis, aided by an integrated treble waveguide that optimises dispersion, thus ensuring great sound wherever the listener is seated.
Throughout the range, the bass and midrange drive units incorporate cones fashioned from an advanced fibre formulation, providing excellent strength and rigidity. These drivers hand over to Mission's classic 25mm silk dome tweeter via a sophisticated crossover network.
In traditional Mission style, the standmount models have the tweeter positioned below the mid/bass drive unit, in order to aid time alignment. By placing the treble unit lower than ear level, the path length from the treble unit to the listener is longer than that of the mid/bass unit. As the treble unit dome is physically forward of the mid/bass unit cone, the difference in path length helps to equalise the acoustic distance.
Similarly, the two-way MX-3 and MX-4 floorstanders position the tweeter between twin mid/bass units in a D'Appolito configuration, while the MX-5 is a true three-way design, with the tweeter sited between a single midrange unit and two bass drivers.
In keeping with the theme of practical living, every MX model has been designed for optimum performance with the drive units protective grilles in place. Traditionally, speakers sound best with their grilles removed, but this leaves the drive units vulnerable to damage. Although the grilles may be removed if the user wishes, the MX speakers have been deliberately tuned for grille-on use thanks not least to the built-in waveguide thus further enhancing both practicality and aesthetics.
The speakers sport a sharp, modern look in keeping with Mission's customary design focus, coupling keyed tonal graduations with a selection of smart wood-grain finishes, able to slot neatly into any domestic environment. All the speakers may be single- or bi-wired (bi-wiring is recommended for optimum performance) and the lower section of the floorstanders may be mass loaded with dry sand to enhance stability and provide additional cabinet damping, thus further enhancing transient response.
The result is a range of speakers that is smart, practical and affordable. Most important of all, they communicate music with engaging energy and detail, bringing performances to life with all the vibrancy and finesse one expects of Mission designs.
The MX Series is the first Mission range to be designed from the ground up by Peter Comeau and his team since Peter was appointed as Director of Acoustic Design for IAG, Mission's parent company, in 2009. Peter previously designed speakers for the Mission brand between 1999 and 2005, his work encompassing multi-award-winning designs such as the Mission 780 and 782. Not surprisingly, the MX Series has been something of a labour of love for Peter, as he explains:
Mission's ethos has always focused upon bringing audiophile performance down to an affordable level, and the MX Series exemplifies this. With the aid of sophisticated modelling tools and software, we've been able to maximise the performance of the MX Series using the most modern technology available. Yet Mission's original slogan, Music is the Master, Technology is the Slave, has never been more apt. Months of fine-tuning through listening to a diverse range of music across multiple genres have allowed us to create, from each the MX loudspeakers, a vibrant and exciting insight into every musical performance. I'm convinced that, whichever MX speaker you select, you'll want to explore your whole music collection all over again.
The Mission MX Series is available from late September. Cabinet finish options include black, cherry, rosewood and walnut.

The Future of Music is Linn DS
Two years ago, when Linn introduced the Klimax DS, they did so having proven that it comprehensively outperformed Linn’s former flagship digital source – the iconic Sondek CD12 – both in terms of its audio performance and the convenience of accessing your full music collection at the touch of a button. There is simply no better digital audio source on the market.
Today, Linn have a comprehensive range of Linn DS players covering a variety of performance, price and application requirements. Each Linn DS player offers better price vs. performance and greater customer benefit than the corresponding CD player. Sales of Linn's CD players have declined dramatically, whilst sales of Linn DS players continue to grow. Linn DS players have also won universal critical acclaim. The unstoppable rise of music downloading, the rise in quality of those downloads, and the demand in the market for modern solutions to music in the home presents a unique opportunity to those of us prepared to lead our customers into the future.
The time is now right for us to end production of our CD players: the future of music is Linn DS. And so, after 20 years designing and manufacturing world-class CD players, Linn is announcing the end-of- life of all remaining CD players in their line-up.
The following products will be discontinued at the end of this year:
• Akurate CD
• Majik CD
• Classik Music
• Classik Movie
Whilst Linn's official end-date for production is 31st December 2009, please note there is very limited stock remaining of all products, so orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Gilad Tiefenbrun, managing director of Linn Products, said: "Our customers have fast recognised the limitations of CD players and in the age of home networking, people now want better control of their music and the ability to enjoy it in any room of their home."
Linn's latest addition to the range the Majik DS-I
is a no compromise one-box system and is sure to appeal to a wider group of customers than ever who seek a simple solution that offers unprecedented value for money with no compromise.
Please visit our showroom or give us a call to arrange a Linn DS Demonstration.

Television is changing. It is going completely digital, bringing us all more choice, better services and better quality.
You may already have digital - from Sky, Freeview, ntl: or Telewest Broadband. But in the future every TV set and video recorder in your house will need to cope with digital signals. So, if you are buying a new TV or video recorder today, you need to think about your digital choices.
There are many ways to get digital television and you will need to decide the best option for you.
If you are buying a new TV today this is what you need to know:
Any analogue TV can be used with a set top box to receive digital TV signals. For Freeview and digital cable, you will need to check you are in a coverage area. For Freeview, you may also need a new aerial. The TV should ideally have a "scart" socket to plug the box into.
An integrated digital TV (iDTV) already has a digital receiver inside it, giving access to Freeview's free digital terrestrial TV services - if you are in the coverage area. To receive any other digital channels you will need to use a set top box (for digital cable or digital satellite) or a viewing card (for Top Up TV). Some iDTVs also need a separate "CAM" adaptor to use Top Up TV.
