The owner of this multihull yacht came to us during the build stage with a very interesting brief that had to include:
- Distributed music from a central server
- Multiband tuner to cover different transmissions from all over the world
- A ships central iPod
- Be compatible with iTunes
- All cabins needed TV/DVD and local ipod doc with the option to run through the central systems speakers
- Control from both fixed keypads and portable remote controls
- Have a full home cinema area in the Saloon with one touch operation
There were also a lot of other factors to take into account as well. The keypads, speakers and server had to be able to cope with all weathers and sea conditions. As the yacht was to be built to the highest possible standards, and she was made of Carbon Fiber, very careful thought needed to be put into how and what wireless transmissions would work and were to put transmitting and receiving equipment. The yacht is also designed to spend a lot of time at sea with power coming from 12v invertors so keeping power consumption to an absolute minimum was of the utmost importance (a very hard thing to do when in fact we ended up with 17 power amps!)
After a lot of investigation there was only one answer, Nuvo’s Grand Concerto system and accompanying accessories. The Grand Concerto’s OLED keypad’s are IP rated so can withstand being out on deck. The display is dimmable so can be nice and bright outside to compensate for the Caribbean sun and dimmed right down in the cabin so as not to blind you at night. As Nuvo’s power amps use the latest digital technology they hardly use any power and give off no heat, yet another consideration when in the Marine environment. Nuvo are also one of the few multi zone systems that enable you to have central equipment and local equipment on the same system. Another great winning combination was Nuvo’s tuner that enabled the owner to receive AM FM and satellite Radio, so another wish answered. Lastly their remotes work on Zigbee so are in no way affected by the Carbon Fiber.
